Router & Modems

Routers and modems are two important networking devices that are commonly used to connect devices to the internet. While they are often used together, they serve different functions in a network.
A modem, short for modulator-demodulator, is a device that converts analog signals from a telephone or cable line into digital signals that can be processed by a computer. It is used to connect a network to the internet by translating the signals from the internet service provider (ISP) into a format that can be understood by devices connected to the network. In essence, a modem provides a gateway between the internet and a local network.
A router, on the other hand, is a device that is used to connect multiple devices to a network and manage the traffic between them. It acts as a traffic cop, directing data packets between devices on the network, and between the network and the internet. A router can be used to create a local area network (LAN), which allows devices to communicate with each other, or a wide area network (WAN), which connects devices across larger distances.
